Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be attempting to push through a move to the Premier League, by going AWOL from his current club Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Armenian midfielder (pictured), who scored a highly impressive 25 goals last season as the club charged to another domestic championship is according to the Daily Mirror and his current club, gone missing.
Shakhtar claim he hasn’t reported yet to their pre-season training camp in Austria, and have threatened the midfielder with a hefty fine if he doesn’t turn up soon.
The club’s CEO Sergei Palkin is not impressed. He said: “Mkhitaryan did not come to the training session on Monday, but he had to. We do not know why.
“If he does not join the team in the coming days he will be fined.”
Valued at around £23m, Mkhitaryan seems to be the final piece in Brendan Rodgers’ jigsaw of transfer activity at Anfield, which has already seen the likes of Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet arrive at the club.
However Shakhtar, owned by billionaire Rinat Akhmetov are under no pressure to sell another star asset.
The club have already brought in Wellington Nem and Fernando from Fluminense and Gremio respectively this summer, but have sold Fernandinho to Manchester City and allowed Willian to join oil-rich Anzhi back in January.
