Andreas Weimann’s future will be tied up this week, and he will be staying for the short-term at least with Aston Villa.

ESPN has reported that a new contract is likely to be offered to the Austria international, who became a pivotal member of the young squad that stayed in the Premier League after a bleak winter period.

Weimann’s performances were excellent throughout, and he scored 12 goals in all competitions.  He looks set to be rewarded with a new three-year deal.

Manager Paul Lambert has been impressed with the form of the youngster, who graduated through the academy system at Villa Park.  He will get a rise in his wages too, especially if Randy Lerner can get rid of top-earners Shay Given, Darren Bent and Charles N’Zogbia.

The news will disappoint Sunderland, Norwich City and Newcastle United, who had all identified Weimann (pictured) as a potential summer target.

Weimann recently said: “What the gaffer is building here we all believe in and we just have to continue working hard for him and each other.

“I think that’s what Aston Villa is about.  It’s a family club.  We’re growing and getting better all the time and I think there’s a lot of potential in the team right now because, as players, we’re only going to get better.

“It’s really exciting for everyone.  The club is very tight-knit.  I’ve been here for years now and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

Weimann’s current deal has only one year left to run which had alerted other Premier League clubs to his availability.
