Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has given Fernando Torres a recall to the international squad for this summer’s Confederations Cup, reports the Daily Mail.
The initial 26-man party will be trimmed to 23 next week, but the Chelsea forward is still likely to keep his place in the line-up for the summer tournament in Brazil.
Despite another average Premier League campaign for the Blues, Torres (pictured) was in cracking form in Europe, netting several goals in the Europa League run, culminating with the opener in the victory over Benfica in Amsterdam earlier this month.
Eight Premier League players are in the squad, including Javi Garcia of Manchester City, and Torres’ Chelsea teammate Juan Mata, despite the midfielder having played almost non-stop since last summer, figuring at both Euro 2012 and the Olympic Games.
Javi Martinez of Bayern Munich has also won a recall to the squad after his performance in the UEFA Champions League final at the weekend.
However, there is no place for Juventus-bound forward Fernando Llorente, or the Sevilla attacker Alvaro Negredo.
Provisional Spain squad for the Confederations Cup:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Liverpool), Victor Valdes (Barcelona)
Defenders: Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Jordi Alba (Barcelona), Alvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid), Naxto Monreal (Arsenal), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Raul Albiol (Real Madrid)
Midfielders: Xavi (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Juan Mata (Chelsea), Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Javi Martinez (Bayern Munich), Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona), David Silva (Manchester City), Santi Cazorla (Arsenal), Pedro (Barcelona), Jesus Navas (Sevilla), Javi Garcia (Manchester City), Benat Etxeberria (Real Betis)
Attackers: Roberto Soldado (Valencia), David Villa (Barcelona), Fernando Torres (Chelsea)
