Brendan Rodgers (pictured) has no interest of playing in the UEFA Europa League next season, especially if Liverpool might earn a spot through the Fair Play league according to ESPN.
UEFA grants three places in the Europa League first qualifying round to the top three leagues in Europe for fair play.
England currently sit in fourth in these rankings, but could move into the top three by the end of the season.
Liverpool would be prim favourites to get a spot if this happened. The Reds are in the top four of the Premier League rankings, but Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City are all set to qualify automatically for European football next season.
Nothing less than a win in tomorrow’s Merseyside derby will keep Liverpool’s faint European hopes alive directly through the league, but Rodgers wouldn’t be bothered on the club missing out on European football for the second time in three seasons.
He said: “I’ve never thought of it. Maybe we should get a couple of sending offs or bookings. There’s a pride thing and we want to get into it with our performance level and it’s highly unlikely we’d get that route.
“It was a long journey in the Europa League this year. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed it and we were disappointed when we came out of it, but I think down the Fair Play route means the competition starts even earlier.
“I’d prefer to be in it by qualifying through the league or winning a trophy.”
The Merseysiders went out in the third round to Zenit St. Petersburg in February.
