French champions Paris Saint-Germain have made an approach to speak to outgoing Chelsea interim manager Raf Benitez, reports French sources.

However, claims from Napoli on Friday night indicate the Serie A runners-up have emerged in pole position to acquire his services for next season.

ESPN reports claims from L’Equipe which indicate Benitez’s advisers have spoken to sporting director Leonardo over the possibility of succeeding Carlo Ancelotti, who wants to leave the club and take over at Real Madrid.

Benitez’s reputation has been restored in testing climes at Chelsea.  He guided the club to a top three Premier League finish and Europa League glory despite regular protests from home supporters, who never forgave him for his successful six-year stint at Liverpool and antagonistic comments made about Chelsea at the time.

The Spaniard (pictured) is likely to have a number of offers to choose from after his Stamford Bridge short-term appointment.

Schalke 04 are rumoured to be mulling over approaching the ex-Inter coach too, and he is also on Stoke City’s shortlist to replace Tony Pulis, although Mark Hughes and Roberto Di Matteo are favourites to fill the Potters position.
