Manuel Pellegrini has received more backing on his likely appointment as Manchester City manager, with the support coming from Citizens midfielder Samir Nasri, who has spoken recently on the club’s American post-season tour of his admiration for Pellegrini’s managerial abilities.
The French international told Sky Sports News: “I think he is a great manager. He proved himself with Villarreal. At Real Madrid as well, even though he didn’t win the title, they finished with 96 points and at Malaga too.
“All his teams play attractive football and I think that’s what people want to see. You pay for a ticket to go to football to see something great and he’s the kind of manager who can do it.”
The Chilean has already received blessing from Malaga to leave the club at the end of the La Liga season, after guiding a squad short of finances to within minutes of the Champions League semi-finals in their debut season in the competition.
His future has been talked about a lot recently, first with Chelsea but City is his likely destination.
Roberto Mancini was sacked a fortnight ago for failing to bring any silverware back to Eastlands this season.
Despite finding the target in the Community Shield and the FA Cup semi-final, Nasri (pictured) himself had a poor season and had a tempestuous relationship with Mancini, especially after Christmas when he had a falling-out with the Italian.
However, he wants to stay at the Etihad and is not interested in a move to PSG.
He continued by saying: “It is not true, it is rubbish. They just talk. The director of PSG (Leonardo) said maybe he wants to buy some French players and said my name. He is someone I have known for a long time from when he was at Inter.
“I want to stay in Manchester, I don’t want to leave, and it is just talk.”
