Manchester City’s captain Vincent Kompany is fully aware of the threat West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku poses ahead of their Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening, reports London24.
Lukaku was one of six nominees for the PFA Young Player of the Year, and has scored 14 goals in all competitions during his loan spell with the Baggies.
Kompany and Lukaku (pictured) play together in an emerging Belgium side that is winning wholesome praise for the depth of young talent they have at their disposal.
They top Group One of World Cup European qualifying, ahead of Croatia and Wales – and look favourites to reach Brazil 2014, and end a 12-year absence on the main international stages.
Kompany said on the Citizens’ official website: “We are lucky to have him for our national sides because I believe he (Lukaku) is one of the biggest talents in Europe.
“We have Romelu and Christian Benteke and they are both young and will only get better.
“In fact, if you look at all the Belgian players in England such as Eden Hazard, Simon Mignolet, Mousa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen, Marouane Fellaini, Kevin Mirallas and Thomas Vermaelen, they are all young – 26 and under – and very talented.”
Lukaku is expected to return to his parent club Chelsea next season, and challenge Demba Ba and Fernando Torres for regular first team football.
However, West Brom want to keep him for another season, with Swansea City also monitoring the 19-year-old’s situation.
Victory for City on Tuesday will almost guarantee second place in the Premier League.
