Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is keeping his emotions in check ahead of the biggest game of his life.
Klopp has guided Dortmund back to the summit of European football, with two Bundesliga titles in three years and a Champions League final appearance tomorrow night against Bayern Munich.
However, he spoke to PUMA on the eve of the final and was staying composed about what was ahead of his young side.
When asked about his feelings of being in the final, he said: “To be honest, I have never really thought about that and I also don’t think it really matters. I have had so many things to do, I haven’t even thought about it since we have reached the final.
“Once the moment of the final arrives though, I will probably feel that it is the most extraordinary thing I have ever experienced in my whole sporting career.”
Dortmund have one experience of being in a Champions League final and it was a happy one. Lars Ricken scored a special goal less than 30 seconds after arriving as a substitute in the 3-1 victory over Juventus back in 1997, ironically in Munich.
Klopp (pictured) praised his squad in the build-up to the occasion, especially the recovery in the quarter-finals when they looked dead and buried against Malaga.
He continued: “This season showed a little bit of everything, all feelings were represented. Of course there were some concerns in the match against Malaga, but also there was huge relief and many positive emotions.
“The 3-2 match against Malaga or also the final whistle in Madrid were moments, which all of us will never forget.”
The club have had to beat some excellent teams along the way. Due to a low UEFA coefficient, they were fourth seeds in their group, but have beaten Real Madrid (twice), Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City on their way to Wembley, and Klopp knows his team have the ability to become champions of Europe.
He added: “The preparations have been extremely intensive and thus there is just one reason why we participate in the final: To win it!”
