ESPN believes Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is closing in on a successor to take over from the departing David Moyes.
After 11 years with the Toffees, Moyes will succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager next season.
He doesn’t start officially in Manchester until the start of July, but received permission from Everton to travel to United’s training ground at Carrington earlier this week to have his first meeting with his new squad.
In the meantime, Kenwright (pictured) is lining up a potential successor, with the shortlist narrowed down to eight names. It is expected to contain FA Cup winning boss Roberto Martinez, suspended Brighton boss Gus Poyet and Celtic’s title-winning manager Neil Lennon.
In an interview with the Sunday People, Kenwright said: “I have got people in mind. A lot of those mentioned are not too far away. Everton have got a type, it’s a very hard working industrial football club.”
The owner could also promote from within, with departing skipper Phil Neville, and Everton legends Duncan Ferguson, Alan Stubbs and David Weir all being speculated as contenders.
Despite a 2-1 defeat in Moyes final match in charge against Chelsea on Sunday, Everton finished above Merseyside neighbours Liverpool for the second successive campaign, and achieved a Premier League top six finish for the first time in four seasons.
