England’s national game will play a big role in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, after the confirmation of the 13 stadiums that have been selected.
Eight football-based stadiums will host matches, although as understood by BBC Sport, Twickenham will stage the opening ceremony and the final.
Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium was the former home for the FA Cup and League Cup finals when Wembley was being rebuilt from 2001 to 2007.
Although Old Trafford had dropped out, the Etihad Stadium (pictured) in Manchester will stage games, along with the AMEX stadium in Brighton.
Fans of the Midlands will see rugby being played at Villa Park, a prominent FA favourite that hosted this season’s Community Shield and the King Power Stadium, home to Championship outfit Leicester City.
Stadium MK in Milton Keynes was a surprising selection, delighting MK Dons owner Pete Winkleman after an underachieving campaign in League One.
Elland Road in Yorkshire, Wembley Stadium, St. James’ Park and the Olympic Stadium complete the stadia to be used for the competition, which will begin on 18 September 2015.
