The Daily Mail understands Chelsea have joined the race to lure the Turkish winger Arda Turan away from Atletico Madrid.
The 26-year-old has had an excellent time in Spain, winning the UEFA Europa League last season and more recently, the Copa del Rey.
He has scored nine times in all competitions for Atletico in 80 appearances, helping Diego Simeone’s side back into the Champions League for next season.
However, Turan is unlikely to be allowed to leave, according to his former club Galatasaray and their president Unai Aysal. Galatasaray would like to bring their former prodigy back to the Turk Telecom Arena, but Aysal has conceded positive business is unlikely to be concluded.
He confessed: “Chelsea are involved with Arda and we won’t be able to match what they are offering. I met with the head of Atletico Madrid; he told me that there were three players the club definitely do not want to sell, one of them being Arda Turan.”
The former captain of Galatasaray joined Atletico in 2011 for around £12m, making him the most expensive Turkish footballer of all-time.
He has also represented his country, starring on Turkey’s stunning run to the semi-finals at Euro 2008. He has won 64 caps for his nation.
Meanwhile, Atletico have enquired about QPR’s midfielder Esteban Granero.
