Hamburg’s general manager Frank Arnesen has maintained that Arsenal have held no discussions with them over the potential transfer of their number one goalkeeper, Rene Adler.
Adler (pictured) moved to the Imtech Arena last summer on a free transfer, after spending 12 years on the books at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Best Bundesliga Goalkeeper of the Year back in 2008 has made himself a permanent fixture in the Hamburg starting 11, and is current German number two to Bayern Munich stopper Manuel Neuer.
Arnesen, who has previous employment history in London with both Tottenham and Chelsea, has denied any discussions have been opened up between the Gunners and Adler’s representatives.
Reported by Metro, Arnesen told German media source Bild: “It’s obviously a fact Arsenal FC is on the search for a goalkeeper, but thus far, no-one from Arsenal FC has been in touch with our club.”
The goalkeeper himself has admitted he is flattered to be linked with a Premier League move, although he currently has four years left on his current contract.
“I am under contract with Hamburg, but for every professional it will be a pleasure and honour to get linked with a club like his.” He said.
Arsenal are keeping their options open, after a difficult season for Wojciech Szczesny behind the goalposts. Polish colleague Lukasz Fabianski is out of contract in the summer, and is unlikely to be offered a new deal.
