The transfer window has now closed and the 20 Barclays Premier League clubs now have to stick with the squads they have until January 1st. 

The world transfer record was broken as Welsh starlet Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid on a six-year contract.  The former Tottenham man cost Madrid £85.3m, breaking the previous £80m record set by the same club when they bought Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 from Manchester United.  He will be earning £300,000 a week at the Bernabeu.

Tottenham have broken their own club record on three occasions and have bought seven players for the Bale total, plus the departures of fringe players such as Clint Dempsey to Seattle Sounders, Tom Huddlestone to Hull City and Steven Caulker to fellow Premier League newcomers Cardiff City.  They paid Valencia £26m for Roberto Soldado, and then broke that figure with a £30m deal after add-ons for Erik Lamela.  Other arrivals at White Hart Lane include Christian Eriksen, Belgian winger Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Brazilian midfielder Paulinho.

The biggest deal involving an incoming player to the Premier League happened at Arsenal.  The Gunners paid Real Madrid £42.3m to sign midfielder Mesut Ozil on the final day of the window.

The biggest deals before that happened at Manchester City and Chelsea.  City spent £30m to bring in the Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho (pictured) from Shakhtar Donetsk, while Chelsea matched the fee to bring compatriot Willian to England from Anzhi in Russia. 

Liverpool added the young talented goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to their squad, along with central defenders Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori, but surprisingly loaned out the experienced Pepe Reina to Napoli.  Merseyside rivals Everton swooped for the Wigan Athletic trio Antolin Alcaraz, James McCarthy and Arouna Kone.

Norwich boosted their striking power with the arrivals of Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Gary Hooper from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.  Emanuele Giaccherini, who impressed for Italy at the Confederations Cup swapped Juventus for Sunderland as Paolo di Canio reshaped his squad with 14 new signings. 

Rising Danish defender Jores Okore made a shock move to Aston Villa, Southampton smashed their record transfer to bring Italian striker Pablo Osvaldo to the Premier League, and Fulham completed deals for former England internationals Scott Parker and Darren Bent.
