Defender Kurt Zouma welcomes the interest shown in him by Europa League holders Chelsea, reports the Daily Express.

The central defender, who currently plays his club football in France with Saint-Etienne, is away representing France at the Under-20 World Cup in Lithuania.

However, the 18-year-old (pictured) is aware of the speculation in the gossip columns regarding his longer-term future.

Zouma, who has attracted interest in the past from Liverpool and Manchester United has spoken of his admiration for Chelsea and clearly takes their interest without a pinch of salt.

He told Sky Sports: “If you hear of interest from Chelsea and a great manager such as Jose Mourinho, you take notice.

“It makes you happy and it means you are on the right way to the top.  I am relaxed about all the fuss about me being linked with big clubs, at the moment my focus is on the Under-20 World Cup.”

Valued at £10m by St Etienne, other clubs including Russian side Anzhi and AC Milan are keeping close eyes of the player’s progress.

Mourinho is keen to seek new moves in his backline.  David Luiz is expected to leave this summer, and with John Terry’s form and fitness not as strong as it was in the ‘Special One’s’ first spell, the Portuguese manager has made reinforcements a priority in this area.

Yesterday, Chelsea completed the long-awaited move of the attacking midfielder Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen.
