Shelvey targeted by Swansea

Swansea City want to sign Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.  However, the Daily Mail have identified they might have to pay over the odds to sign the 21-year-old.

Shelvey has just returned from England Under-21 duty after their dismal showing at the recent European Championships in Israel.

It is believed that Brendan Rodgers is looking to move the midfielder on, either on loan or a permanent deal and that has alerted the Welsh side, who need to strengthen ahead of a European campaign this season.

Swansea will have to pay at least £5m to sign Shelvey (pictured) on a permanent basis, although Liverpool would like a fee closer to £8m.

The Merseysiders will be willing to compromise on the initial fee with some complicated add-ons.  Shelvey made a good start to last campaign at Anfield, scoring for fun in the Europa League group stages and even winning senior international recognition from Roy Hodgson.

However, he slipped down the pecking order in the second half of the season, and was rarely seen in latter months by Reds fans.
