Former Scotland international and Everton defender David Weir has landed his first job in senior management, says BBC Sport.
Weir has been appointed as the man to succeed Danny Wilson as manager of League One side Sheffield United.
The 43-year-old (pictured) had been working with the reserves at Everton, alongside former centre back partner and current Everton Under-21 boss Alan Stubbs, and was interviewed recently for the managerial post with the Toffees.
Wilson left the Blades in April after failing to guide the club out of the third tier of English football in his two seasons in charge.
He also struggled to win over the club’s supporters, who never forgot his previous playing and managerial career with city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Chris Morgan took the Blades into the play-offs, but they were beaten over two legs in the semi-finals by Yeovil Town, and he decided not to run for the post on a permanent basis.
Motherwell’s Stuart McCall and Central Coast Mariners coach Graham Arnold turned down the vacancy after being given permission to speak to the board by their respective clubs.
