Mbokani linked with West Brom switch

Dieumerci Mbokani is a wanted man, with West Brom adding their name to the list of clubs queuing up to sign the Belgian international.

Mbokani has expressed a desire to play in England, following the success of fellow Belgians Romelu Lukaku, Christian Benteke, Vincent Kompany and Mousa Dembele.

The 27-year-old currently plays for Anderlecht, and despite the fact that they accepted a bid from Dynamo Kiev, Mbokani turned down the move in the hope an English outfit comes in for him.

Mbokani (pictured) said: “I went to Kiev but could not agree anything with the club.  I want to play in England and I can confirm that there is some interest at the moment.  Let’s relax and see what happens by the end of June.”

Metro says Hull City have been linked with the forward, but it is West Brom who have shown the strongest form of interest.

Albion boss Steve Clarke has privately conceded that a second loan spell for Lukaku is looking increasingly unlikely, and with Peter Odemwingie certain to leave and Marc-Antoine Fortune released, he needs new striking options to partner Shane Long.

Anderlecht’s chairman Roger Vanden Stock has agreed that Mbokani can leave the club for new challenges, but only if the right bid comes in to suit their needs.

He admitted: “English clubs have seen what Christian Benteke is capable of, and they know that Dieu is even better.  He can be one of the best strikers in Europe, so I think the fee would be closer to 20 million euros than 10.”
