Despite only having one year left on his contract, Robert Lewandowski is set to remain a Borussia Dortmund player for the forthcoming season, says the Independent.
The Pole (pictured) has indicated he would like to leave the club in the summer, and is unlikely to sign a new deal, meaning the Champions League finalists had a choice of selling him for a big fee this season, or risk losing him for nothing next summer.
However the 24-year-old has been told a move will not happen to English chasers Chelsea and Manchester United.
Two weeks ago, the club also rejected advances from German rivals Bayern Munich. The general manager of Dortmund, Hans-Joachim Watzke has told German sources: “Robert will definitely be playing for Borussia Dortmund next season. We need this security to be able to plan."
The club lost Mario Gotze after Bayern activated his release clause in April. He will link up with his new employers next week.
Lewandowski has found the target on a regular basis since arriving from Lech Poznan, scoring 54 times in 98 appearances.
He also scored the first goal of Euro 2012, and netted four times in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid.
