Now reappointed as Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at his former player Cristiano Ronaldo after his tempestuous time at Real Madrid.
Mourinho claims Ronaldo had a problem dealing with constructive criticism, and added he thinks the former European Footballer of the Year has an arrogant attitude.
According to Sky Sports, Spanish television show Punto Pelota conducted an interview with the Portuguese boss and he said: “I had only one problem with him, very simple, very basic, which was when a coach criticises a player from a tactical viewpoint trying to improve what in my view could have been improved.
“At that moment he didn’t take it very well because maybe he thinks he knows everything and the coach cannot help him to develop more.
“Cristiano has had three fantastic seasons with me, I don’t know if they were the best of his career because he had some fantastic moments with Manchester United.”
Despite the breakdown in the relationship, Ronaldo (pictured with Mourinho) has scored goals for fun in Madrid, and played a key role in the club overhauling Barcelona to win La Liga in 2012.
The future of the 28-year-old has come under scrutiny with frustrating contract negotiations adding to the uncertainty of Ronaldo’s longer-term future with the nine-time European Cup winners.
Mourinho’s criticism of his compatriot means an unlikely switch to west London looks dead in the water.
However, French champions PSG have the wealth and the ambition to make Ronaldo a tempting offer he might not be able to refuse.
He has also been linked with a return to Manchester United, four years after departing for the Bernabeu for a still world record transfer fee of £80m.
