Mark Schwarzer looks increasingly likely to end his long association with Fulham this summer, as the Australian plays hardball in contract talks.
ESPN understands the west Londoners want to keep the 40-year-old goalkeeper, who has featured in over 500 Premier League matches for Fulham and previously at Middlesbrough.
However, they can’t guarantee number one status to Schwarzer (pictured), a requirement that the Aussie wants in his new deal.
Ahead of the Socceroos’ World Cup qualifying clash with Japan, which ended in a 1-1 draw and secured the Japanese team's qualification for next summer's festival of football, Schwarzer stated: “There’s no new developments; there’s no new discussions; there’s no nothing. I’m confident my club situation will resolve itself one way or another.
“Something will be sorted out - I’ve got no worries about that. I’ve got no idea at this stage where I’m going to be. I’m open to anything.”
Schwarzer, who nearly moved to Arsenal two years ago, has one eye on featuring for Australia at next summer’s World Cup finals should qualification be secured.
Unlike fellow veterans Brad Friedel and Shay Given, Schwarzer seems unhappy to play a number two role at Fulham, which looks more likely now the Cottagers are closing in on 30-year-old Maarten Stekelenburg.
Stekelenburg worked with Martin Jol at Ajax, and was the Dutch number one in their nightmare campaign at Euro 2012.
Fulham have already completed the free transfers of defender Fernando Amorebieta and midfielder Derek Boateng as they look to improve on a 12th-place finish in 2012-13.
