Fiorentina continue to pursue Pantilimon

Fiorentina have continued to show an interest in Manchester City reserve goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, according to the Daily Express.

Pantilimon only made five first team appearances last season, and was dropped for the FA Cup final in a tough call by ex-boss Roberto Mancini, despite the Romanian having featured in every match in the run to the final.

He has hinted he would like the chance to play as a number one, and also has a dream of playing in Serie A.

Last month in an interview, Pantilimon (pictured) stated: “I thought I would play at least the FA Cup final against Wigan, but we all know how it went.”

La Viola finished fourth last season and will be back in Europe after an absence of four years since a Champions League run to the last 16 in 2010.

They have made signing a goalkeeping a prior requirement.  Last season’s first choice, Emiliano Viviano has returned from loan to relegated Palermo and Fiorentina are not keen to make this move into a more permanent arrangement.

They have already signed Marcos Alonso on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers and are tracking the Chelsea right-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
