Local affairs are the main story to come out from the first round draw of the Capital One Cup (trophy pictured).  The official website of the sponsor reveals there will be no fewer than five clashes where more than just pride will be at stake.

There are three East Anglian derbies, with Ipswich Town travelling to Stevenage, Colchester hosting Peterborough and Northampton Town at home to Milton Keynes Dons.

Preston North End entertain Blackpool in a spicy Lancastrian battle, and Bournemouth meet neighbours Portsmouth on the south coast.

QPR will begin away at League Two side Exeter City, while last season’s shock cup finalists Bradford City also begin on the road away to Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Other standout ties see Derby County head to Oldham Athletic, Blackburn facing a tough trip to Cumbria to tackle Carlisle United and newcomers Mansfield Town and Newport County both starting away from home at Tranmere Rovers and Brighton respectively.

Reading have a bye into the second round, along with 14 non-Premier League European sides including 2012 winners Liverpool.  Heavyweights such as Manchester United, Chelsea and current holders Swansea City will not join in until the third round.

All ties for the first round will be played on the week commencing 5 August.  The final is at Wembley in March 2014.
