France midfielder Abou Diaby is vowing to fightback from his latest injury blow. The 27-year-old has suffered a catalogue of injuries at Arsenal since arriving from Auxerre in January 2006.
The latest setback came in a training session in March, when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Despite showing early season promise, Diaby (pictured) only played 11 Premier League matches last term, his last appearance coming in the 2-0 away victory at Swansea in mid-March.
Diaby’s habit of missing games on a regular basis started in 2006 when he was the victim of a terrible tackle by Dan Smith of Sunderland, breaking his ankle and leaving manager Arsene Wenger considering taking legal action against the youngster.
Diaby is expected to be out of action until Christmas, but the man who has frequently been compared to Patrick Vieira is adamant he will return to full fitness.
As quoted by ESPN, he told L’Equipe: “I’ve got rid of my crutches. Now I have to walk. I’ll start running again in a few weeks. I want to take my time to ensure everything is good.”
Diaby is currently undergoing intense physio work at the French national team training centre at Clairefontaine, alongside Ricardo Faty of AC Ajaccio and Lille’s Ryan Mendes.
