Departing Sunderland defender Titus Bramble has become the latest player to slam Paolo di Canio’s approach to management.
Bramble’s career is in jeopardy after the Black Cats elected to release him from his contract last week.
The 31-year-old (pictured) looks short on offers for finding a new club, although he might end up at Hull City where Steve Bruce, who has bought him twice before, could draft in Bramble to add some experience to the Tigers’ backline.
Sky Sports says Bramble believes Di Canio has a lot to learn in his man-management skills, which has seen a number of players called by the boss ‘lazy’ ‘ignorant’ and ‘unfit’ to wear the Wearsiders shirt.
As quoted in the Daily Telegraph, he said: “I’ve never played under anyone like him and I’ve played for some of the best managers around, Steve Bruce, Roberto Martinez and Sir Bobby Robson.
“He thinks he knows everything, but he has got a lot to learn. He’s got a long, long way to go before he gets anywhere near as good as Sir Bobby Robson. He’s a young manager trying to stamp his mark on things, but he’s making some big mistakes.”
Bramble did concede di Canio’s coaching analysis is impressive, as he helped Sunderland narrowly escape relegation from the Premier League.
He added: “He’s a good coach on the training pitch. Everything is so detailed. He’s one of the best I’ve played for in that respect, but his man-management skills need a lot of work.”
Wigan’s player of the year in 2009, Bramble started his professional career at his hometown club Ipswich Town in 1999.
He once cost Newcastle United £6m, before moving onto the Latics, and then Sunderland in the summer of 2010.
