The agent of Marco van Ginkel has confirmed Chelsea have shown interest in purchasing the midfielder from his current club, Vitesse Arnhem.

Sky Sports says the Blues’ club affiliation with Vitesse puts them in the driving seat to land the Dutch youngster, who has impressed many people with his club performances.

Dutch champions Ajax are also keen on van Ginkel (pictured), who has already been capped at senior international level, and is currently playing at the European Under-21 Championships in Israel.

His agent Karel Jansen told De Telegraaf: “Chelsea are interested, we don’t deny it, but there are more clubs.  Ajax had made official contact with Vitesse, but they don’t want to talk with them.

“The situation is that we wait until after the European Championships and then will look for the best step.”

The Blues have sent youngsters such as Gael Kakuta on loan to Vitesse in recent years, and are also reported to be helping the club with the appointment of a new coach.

Van Ginkel joined the academy at Vitesse in 1999 as a seven-year-old and has emerged as one of the club’s best ever young talents through the system.

He made his Eredivisie debut three years ago and helped the club to a stellar fourth place finish in the league last season, their best domestic campaign since 1998.
