Celtic’s Neil Lennon has admitted injury-stricken defender Richard Dunne is a possible option for the club this summer.
The 33-year-old has had a horrendous last 18 months with injury meaning he failed to figure last season at Aston Villa and the central defender has since been released by the club.
However, Sky Sports understands Lennon is considering taking the ex-Evertonian up to Scotland for the new campaign.
Lennon told the Daily Record: “We have made no formal or informal movements as yet.
“Richard has had injury problems and hasn’t played for a long time so I don’t know what kind of condition he is in. The way we have been signing players over the years, he would fall out of that category, but he is a player I have known a long time and have always liked.”
Dunne (pictured) has not featured in the English top flight since his first injury setback in February 2012, although he was part of the Republic of Ireland squad at Euro 2012.
He made his first appearance since those finals on Sunday, as a substitute in the Republic’s friendly victory against Georgia.
Hull City and QPR have also shown an interest in taking a gamble on Dunne, who spent almost a decade with Manchester City before joining Villa in September 2009.
He also has the unwanted record of sharing the most dismissals in Premier League history, with a total of eight red cards alongside Duncan Ferguson and Patrick Vieira.
