Arsenal have released high wage earners Andrey Arshavin, Sebastien Squillaci and Denilson, the Guardian confirms.

Arshavin (pictured) is expected to return to Russia after an unhappy spell in England, failing to deliver consistent performances after making a £15m move from Zenit St Petersburg in 2009.

The 32-year-old only featured 11 times in all competitions last season, largely as a substitute, but he caused nightmares for Liverpool fans after scoring a memorable four goals in one evening at Anfield in April 2009, wrecking the Reds’ title dream that season.

However, that was his only major contribution in five seasons with Arsenal, clocking up 144 appearances.

Squillaci’s opportunities have been limited over the last two seasons.  Capped 21 times by his country, the Frenchman played 32 times in 2010/11 after signing from Sevilla, but has been almost totally ignored by Arsene Wenger since.

Denilson has spent the last two seasons on loan at his hometown club Sao Paulo.  He was a regular in the side in 2008/09, and played 153 times for the north Londoners.
