Xabi considering his options

With his Real Madrid future up in the air, Xabi Alonso might be on his way back to England, but as the Daily Mail has revealed, it might be destination Stamford Bridge rather than Anfield.

Speculation is rife about Jose Mourinho’s next destination, with a return to the Blues expected, dropping a hint after Tuesday’s Champions League exit at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, claiming he wants to go somewhere where ‘he is loved.’

If Mourinho does return to west London, he has identified Alonso (pictured) as a target to take with him from the Bernabeu.

The 31-year-old has one more year left on his current deal with Real Madrid, but hasn’t yet responded to their two-year contract extension they have offered.

Alonso is waiting to hold out to see who would succeed Mourinho in Spain before deciding to respond.

The former Real Sociedad midfielder has recently said he would welcome a return to Liverpool, a club he left for a return to La Liga in 2009 for £30m.
