PUMA become new kit sponsors for Arsenal

Sportswear giant PUMA have agreed the biggest kit sponsorship deal in British football history, signing a five-year contract with Arsenal.

The Londoners will earn £30m a year from the deal (new kit pictured), which overtakes Liverpool’s £25m yearly contract with Warrior, according to the Daily Mail.

It also ends the Gunners long-time association with Nike.  The American sports firm, famous for their ‘Just Do It’ slogan, have sponsored Arsenal shirts since August 1994.

The new deal is a major coup for Ivan Gazidis.  The Arsenal chief executive believes this deal; along with an extended partnership with Emirates for shirt sponsorship, show progress is being made off-the-field despite a real danger of the club missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 16 years.

Adidas were also in the frame, but have been overlooked and might instead link up with London rivals Fulham to ensure a west London monopoly.  They already have a lucrative agreement with Chelsea.

PUMA’s sport clients include Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt, Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Mercedes F1 driver Nico Rosberg.
