Napoli target AVB

Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas has been subject to an approach from Serie A giants Napoli, says Metro.

The Italian side are looking for a new manager after Walter Mazzarri elected to step down at the end of the regular season, which concluded last weekend.

He guided the Naples side to second place and a shot at the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

When speaking to Portuguese newspaper DN, Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed they had contacted Tottenham to speak to Villas-Boas.

He said: “Yes.  There is a very tempting argument to hire a young coach here.”

It is unclear whether Spurs will respond or allow permission for Villas-Boas (pictured) to speak to Napoli, despite not getting Champions League football for the third successive campaign.

The lure of top club football could be the deciding factor in the thinking of the 35-year-old.

Whoever takes the hotseat will have a job to keep Edinson Cavani, with the prudent finisher being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.
