Bookmakers are starting to draw up a shortlist of contenders to succeed the retiring Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, reports Teamtalk.com.

Sky Bet has backed the current Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho to be the ideal replacement for Ferguson.

Previous odds of 20/1 were moved in to 6/4 earlier this morning, especially with his time in Spain seemingly coming to an end.

It had been widely tipped he would return to Chelsea in the summer, but ‘The Special One’ has indicated in the past he would love the Old Trafford post and it would make him a suitable candidate.

Everton manager David Moyes (pictured) remains the favourite though at 4/6 to start with, but now at 1/10.  Moyes has been widely praised by Ferguson of the job he has done over the past 11 years at Goodison Park, and is out of contract with the Toffees at the end of the season.

Highly-rated Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is the third favourite at 25/1, while outsiders for the position include Ferguson’s current assistant manager Mike Phelan and Ryan Giggs.
