Martin Jol is keen to keep Mark Schwarzer at Fulham after another impressive display on the final day of the Premier League season.

Clubcall understands the 40-year-old is out of contract in the summer, but his Dutch manager wants him to stay at Craven Cottage, despite pursuing compatriot and Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The Australian pulled off several impressive stops in the Cottagers 3-0 away victory over Swansea, lifting them to a final finish of 12th in the Premier League, following a worrying run of five successive defeats.

Schwarzer (pictured) denied Chico Flores, Wayne Routledge and Pablo Hernandez in an exceptional goalkeeping display.

Dimitar Berbatov netted his 15th league goal of a productive first season in west London, and there were also goals for Swedish youngster Alexander Kacaniklic and the on-loan AC Milan midfielder Urby Emanuelson.

Jol said after the win: “We offered him (Schwarzer) a new contract; the only thing is he wanted to be guaranteed to be the number one.  That is not easy as we need a goalkeeper anyway.

“We don’t know what will happen to (David) Stockdale and he does not want to be the number two, as you know he wants to be number one as well, and that is the problem.”

Schwarzer is currently in the top 10 of players in terms of all-time Premier League appearances.  He has played 216 times for Fulham in all competitions since joining from Middlesbrough in 2008.
