Given to be offered contract termination

Shay Given is set to lead the prestigious names out of the exit door at Aston Villa this summer, says Clubcall.

Paul Lambert’s gamble to prefer youth over the experienced heads looked like it would backfire in January, with the club in the bottom three and embarrassed by newly promoted Bradford in the League Cup semi-final.

However, the club’s form improved towards the end of the campaign, losing just five times from the middle of February, keeping their ever-present Premier League status in the process.

The Scot will stick with the young approach, meaning no future in the Midlands for Given (pictured).

He hasn’t played in the league since losing his place to Brad Guzan in September, and the former Newcastle stopper is set to be handed £5m to terminate his contract.

He won’t be the only one to leave.  Charles N’Zogbia looks set to go, with AS Monaco poised to take him back to France.

Richard Dunne and Darren Bent have also been told to look for another club this summer.
