Talented German youngster Andre Schurrle will only leave Bayer Leverkusen for Chelsea if the deal suits the Bundesliga Champions League chasers.
That is according to Goal.com, who have reported the comments made on Schurrle’s future by Bayer Leverkusen’s Director of Football Rudi Voller.
The former German national team manager and winner of the 1990 World Cup as a player was in London last week to negotiate a summer switch for the 22-year-old.
Leverkusen’s preference will be to take the Belgian teenager Kevin De Bruyne on a permanent deal, while Chelsea would only prefer a loan agreement between the two clubs.
There is also the debate of how much football Schurrle (pictured) would get at Stamford Bridge, especially with competition in the form of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Victor Moses in similar positions.
On the TV show Sky90, Voller added: “The transfer of Schurrle is a question of the total package. There are some more items and De Bruyne is one of them.”
“(De Bruyne) is) a top alternative and can play a similar position like Andre. If a good player leaves, we’ve got to sign another good or even better player.”
Schurrle has an excellent goal ratio of one goal every three league games this season for Leverkusen, helping the side jointly managed by Sascha Lewandowski and Sami Hyypia into the top three, but nearly 30 points behind champions Bayern Munich.
