As he prepares QPR for life in the Championship next season, Harry Redknapp only has regrets over one aspect of his reign, according to Football365.com.
That regret was over the Peter Odemwingie saga, with Redknapp (pictured) believing he could have done more to persuade West Brom to sell the Nigerian to the west Londoners.
Odemwingie has wanted out of the Hawthorns since January, launching several attacks on the club through his Twitter account.
Believing a deal was agreed between the two parties, he turned up at Loftus Road car park on transfer deadline day, but was turned away again and the move ultimately fell through.
Redknapp admitted: “I’d have probably tried harder to get the boy from West Brom, Odemwingie.
“He might have really given us something up there with Bobby Zamora not being 100 per cent fit. He might have scored four or five goals that make the difference.
“He did no different to what about 50 other footballers did on the same day. He made one big mistake. He was too honest, he turned up at the footballclub, and he was silly.”
Saturday’s dismal home display which ended in a 2-0 defeat to struggling Stoke City has all-but confirmed what many outside the club have predicted for months, that QPR are going down.
They are now 10 points adrift of safety, and relegation will be confirmed if Aston Villa pull off a shock victory at Manchester United tonight.
Redknapp has also insisted QPR’s owners have control on his destiny.
He added: “I’d rather us have the challenge of building another Premier League team here which I would have done and we wouldn’t be in trouble.
“But this is where we are. I’ve tried my best with what we’ve had and it’s not been good enough.”
