Red Devils chasing another Premier League record

Sir Alex Ferguson is after another Premier League record.

The Daily Express says it is the coveted most points total in a season.

Manchester City’s second half collapse at Tottenham on Sunday means a record 20th league title and 13th in the Premier League era will be secured by victory for Manchester United over relegation threatened Aston Villa tonight.

Five successive victories between now and the season’s conclusion would take the Red Devils to 96 points, one more than the current mark which was set by Jose Mourinho and Chelsea in 2004-05.

On the eve of the clash at Old Trafford, Ferguson (pictured) said: “It’s not beyond us.  If you are asking if Manchester United can win five games in a row, well how many times have we done that?”

United have lost just four league games this season, and last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham was only the seventh time they haven’t achieved maximum points in a Premier League game this season.

After Villa, the club have away trips to Arsenal and West Brom, and home encounters with Chelsea and Swansea.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand is likely to be offered a testimonial in the summer, as he is set to sign a new one-year contract.
