Chelsea’s interim boss Rafa Benitez is saying nothing about a possible England return for John Terry.
There was speculation at the weekend over an England return for Terry (pictured), especially with the Three Lions struggling to find a consistent central defensive partnership.
The former captain of the national side retired from international football in September ahead of the FA hearing into his conduct over the racial affair with ex-QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Swansea on Sunday which made the Blues favourites for Champions League qualification through the league, Benitez told Sky Sports: “That is not my business. My business is to keep him as fit as possible for every game.
“I only speak to him about Chelsea.”
It was the first time Terry has made back-to-back appearances for Benitez since February, as the Spanish manager has often preferred David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic as a centre back partnership.
Frank Lampard took the main headlines on Sunday, as he edged ever closer to Bobby Tambling’s all-time goalscoring record for the club.
Lampard came off the bench for the injured Ramires, and slotted home a penalty to record his 201st goal for the club, just one behind Tambling’s total of 202.
He also equalled a record of scoring against 38 different Premier League clubs, sharing that with Andy Cole.
Benitez added: “Frank is a great player. I’m really pleased he’s scored another goal and hopefully he can score five between now and the end of the season and he’ll be much happier and we will be same.”
