Despite missing out on their target late in the January transfer window, Everton are continuing their close pursuit of Spanish international Alvaro Negredo.

The Toffees hierarchy will be more encouraged on Wednesday of potentially luring Negredo to Merseyside after he revealed he would like to play in the Premier League, according to Eurosport.

The 27-year-old (pictured) featured in Spain’s disappointing home draw with Finland in the World Cup qualifiers recently, although he lost his starting place for the reigning World and European champions ahead of the victory in Paris against France last Tuesday.

Negredo, valued by his current club Sevilla at around £13m, has been in great form for the mid-table outfit this term, finding the target 15 times in 26 league games.

On his desire to play in England in the future, Negredo admitted: “It is a league that I like and sooner or later I will play in it.

"President Jose Maria del Nido received some offers in January, but decided not to consider them.  We’ll see what is going to happen in the future.”

Should he extend his own deal at Goodison Park, manager David Moyes is weighing up his striking options, with Nikica Jelavic having failed to sparkle in his first full season with the club.

The Toffees beat Stoke City 1-0 in the late kick-off on Saturday.
