Lukaku speculation dismissed by Clarke

West Brom boss Steve Clarke has rubbished speculation over a rumoured agreement between Chelsea and Swansea City for Belgian ace Romelu Lukaku, understands Eurosport.

Lukaku (pictured) is owned by Chelsea, but was loaned out to Albion at the start of this campaign, and has had a successful season in the Midlands.

The youngster has found the net 13 times for the Baggies in 32 appearances in all competitions, and was allowed to stay with WBA in January, despite a clause in his deal which gave Chelsea the ability to recall the player.

It is anticipated the Blues would like the 19-year-old back on the roster next season, but Swansea’s campaign in Europe, due to their League Cup success in February, might tempt the Londoners to do business with one of West Brom’s mid-table rivals.

Ahead of today’s academic clash with Newcastle United, Clarke said: “There’s nothing in it. read in the press he’s going to Swansea - but I would be very surprised if he ends up there.”

West Brom were as high as third in late November, and although consistency has eluded them since, Clarke’s men still sit in a strong eighth place ahead of the Magpies visit to the Hawthorns.
