Olivier Giroud has expressed his disappointment at the rejection of his appeal against a red card last weekend for Arsenal, Sky Sports understands.
The 26-year-old was given a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner for a challenge on Stanislav Manolev in the closing stages of the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Arsenal’s appeal against the red card was rejected earlier this week by the FA.
Giroud (pictured apologising after making the challenge) said: “I was very surprised at the verdict as my action was unintentional. It does not hurt me but the rules in England are really very harsh.”
It means the Frenchman will now miss the match against Manchester United on Sunday, then clashes with QPR and Wigan.
He will only be available for the Londoners trip to Newcastle on the final day of the season.
Giroud has found the net on a regular basis in his first season in the Premier League. The Frenchman, who was the top scorer for Montpellier in the French league last season, has found the target 17 times in all competitions for Arsenal.
