ITV Sport has confirmed businessman Anthony Fry (pictured) is to become the new chairman of the Premier League.
The 57-year-old, who has no formal football connections, will succeed Sir Dave Richards when he stands down in July.
Richards has been chairman of the Premier League since 1999, when he was the owner of Sheffield Wednesday.
Bruce Buck from Chelsea, who led the nominations committee for the Premier League, said: “We have appointed an individual with the correct blend of experience, skills, attitude and demeanour to represent the best interests of the Premier League.
“There were a number of outstanding candidates, any of whom would have made a fine Premier League chairman, but in Anthony Fry we have appointed an individual with the correct blend of experience, skills, attitude and demeanour to represent the best interests of the Premier League.”
The frontrunners pipped to the post were Gary Hoffman, who is chairman of the Football Foundation, and vice-chairman of the London 2012 Olympics, Sir Keith Mills.
Fry currently sits on the BBC Trust, and is chairman of the Finance Committee. He will relinquish this role in the summer to take this new position. He has been on the BBC board since 2008.
His background mainly comes in the banking sector, stretching back to over 20 years. He has worked for financial powers such as Lehman Brothers and Evercore, along with being on the board of the English National Opera and he is current chairman of Dairy Crest.
