Sky Sports have announced their own new signing for next season, with retiring Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher joining the team of the Premier League broadcaster for 2013/2014.
Carragher is retiring from football next month, and will be swapping his football boots at Anfield for the Sky studios across the country.
The 35-year-old will join Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp and Graeme Souness on the punditry team next season (all pictured), and will be a regular on both Super Sunday and Monday Night Football.
He has previous punditry experience, having been part of the ITV team at the European Championships last summer.
Carragher said: “I watch Sky Sports all the time and I’m a huge fan. I can’t wait to be part of their coverage and work with the best in the business. What Sky has done for football for over 20 years is incredible and I’m thrilled to be part of their exciting plans for next season.
“I don’t think there could be a better move for me: to retire from one of the world’s best football clubs at the end of the season and then join one of the world’s best broadcasters.”
Managing Director of Sky Sports, Barney Francis, added: “Jamie has everything you want in an expert analyst; opinions, experience and incredible knowledge.
“He’s hugely respected throughout the game and I know his immense insight on today’s players, teams and tactics will make our football coverage even better.”
Carragher made his Liverpool debut in 1997, and his major club honours include the UEFA Cup, two FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League in 2005.
Ed Chamberlin will continue to anchor live Premier League matches, a role he has fronted regularly since Richard Keys departed Sky in January 2011.
Sky Sports will broadcast 116 live games from the Barclays Premier League next season, among a portfolio of over 500 live matches in 2013/2014.
