Chelsea captain John Terry has insisted he can accept Rafa Benitez’s squad rotation policy at Stamford Bridge, but went on to say he can still play three times a week for the club if needs be, according to the Daily Mirror.
The former England skipper (pictured) has had a troubled season, with a serious knee injury in November restricting him to just three league starts in 2013 since sustaining the blow in the home draw with Liverpool.
However, he made a rare start on Wednesday night, and scored twice in Chelsea’s impressive 3-0 local derby success away at Fulham.
The result put the Blues back into pole position for Champions League qualification via the league, but Terry backs Benitez’s rotation, especially as the west Londoners look set to play 60 games in all competitions this season.
He said: “From my point of view, I prefer to play two or three games a week - otherwise you get long, drawn out weeks and you end up doing a couple of days running and feel just as tired.
“A lot has been said about whether you can play two or three games a week and the rotation system, but I accept the rotation system completely.”
The 32-year-old was left on the bench throughout Chelsea’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, and is expected to be back on the bench for the Blues’ visit to Liverpool on Sunday.
