ITV Sport has revealed Welsh wizard Gareth Bale is the overwhelming favourite to land the crown of PFA Young Player of the Year.

The Tottenham star was one of six names to be included on the shortlist for the coveted award.

Also making the shortlist is Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, who is among the challengers to Bale in this category.

The other nominations are Eden Hazard from Chelsea, West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku, Danny Welbeck of Manchester United and Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.

Bale (pictured) has been in incredible form for Tottenham, scoring 22 times in all competitions and becoming widely recognised as one of the world’s best midfielders.

Wilshere has bounced back from a full year on the sidelines, while Welbeck has continued to impress for both Manchester United and England, especially in a wider role for his club.

Lukaku has netted 13 times in a successful loan spell for West Brom, and Benteke’s goal tally of 19 for relegation threatened Villa has been impressive, meanwhile, with 12 goals in his debut season for Chelsea, Hazard has shown flashes of brilliance.

The winner will be crowned at a gala dinner presentation in London on Sunday, 28 April.
