Ramires insists Chelsea can win the double

Chelsea midfielder Ramires has come out and told the Stamford Bridge doubters that last year’s unlikely double trophy success can be repeated again.

The Brazilian has had another solid season at the heart of the Blues midfield, and has become one of the first players on the team sheet week in, week out in west London.

Chelsea will face two crucial cup games in the next few days, in a bid to keep alive a season full of peaks and troughs.

They make the journey to Romania to face Steaua Bucharest tonight in the UEFA Europa League round of 16, first leg encounter, before tackling Manchester United at Old Trafford in a mouth-watering FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

And Ramires (pictured) has told the Daily Star that history can repeat itself.

He said: “It was around this time last year that everybody was telling us the season was lost already and we wouldn’t win anything.  Well, we all know how that ended!

“We are fighting for two competitions and we also need to make sure we get back in the Champions League, which means we have to finish in the top four.

“If there is any chance, even the smallest, the fans can know that we will be trying our best and we will never give up.”

The 25-year-old has scored on seven occasions this season.

His most recent strike came in the 4-1 victory over Wigan a month ago, after an effort against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup recently was eventually credited to Fernando Torres.
