Mourinho plays down job links

On the eve of Real Madrid’s intriguing trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League, Jose Mourinho has hinted that he will not replace Sir Alex Ferguson as Red Devils manager when he chooses to retire.

In an interesting exchange for MUTV with former European Cup winner Paddy Crerand, Mourinho (pictured) suggested he wouldn’t take over at Old Trafford despite being not directly asked this question.

The Independent has run the transcript of the interview, which started with discussions about subscriptions payments to the MUTV service.

It started when the Portuguese boss joked that he wanted to be arranged a free annual subscription for the channel.

In response, Crerand said that only club employees could waive the £6 monthly fee.

Mourinho: “There is no chance. I have to pay.
Crerand: “You never know.  One day?
Mourinho: “One day?  Nah, I don’t think so.
Crerand: “You never know?  Life is strange,
Mourinho: “You never know, but I don’t think so.”

Mourinho’s future has been up in the air for a number of months, with many Spanish insiders believing he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. The round of 16 tie is poised nicely at 1-1 ahead of Tuesday night’s second leg.
