The agent of Federico Macheda has indicated that the Manchester United striker could return to Lazio, reports the Daily Express.

The Italian began his career with the Rome giants before moving as a teenager to United in 2007.

He is currently on-loan with German outfit VFB Stuttgart, and is keen to make a breakthrough into regular first-team football.

His agent, Giovanni Bia told Tuttomercatoweb: “For the moment there is not that possibility.  He is fine in Germany, the club are very pleased.

“Lazio is the club where he grew up and they would like him to come home, but it all depends on Stuttgart, who have the option to buy him at the end of the season.”

Macheda (pictured) made an immediate impact at Old Trafford with a dramatic winner against Aston Villa in April 2009 which helped the Red Devils hold off Liverpool to claim their 18th league championship.

However, he has found opportunities limited since and has been out on loan at both Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers, but injuries and manager preference meant he didn’t make much of an impact at either side.

Stuttgart loaned him in January, where he has been used mainly as a substitute.

He played in the Bundesliga side’s UEFA Europa League exit to Lazio on Thursday, losing 5-1 on aggregate.
