The Daily Express is leading with the story of a hefty fine but no stripping of SPL titles for Rangers.
The Oldco Rangers group (logo pictured) were fined £250,000 following an investigation into undisclosed payments to players between 2000 and 2011.
However, the three-man team of Charles Flint, Nicholas Stewart and Lord Nimmo Smith decided that although the club was guilty of failing to make logical disclosure of the arrangements, a fine was the suitable penalty of action.
The strongest sanction that could have been taken would have been the stripping of five SPL titles, won in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2010.
This penalty hasn’t been imposed as the commission believe Rangers “did not gain any unfair competitive advantage.”
Had they been penalised, Celtic would have been awarded all five championships.
Rangers were relegated to the Scottish Third Division, and currently have a transfer embargo in place from the summer.
However, the Gers have lost just one game in the league this season, and lead Queen’s Park by a mammoth 20 points.
