Young Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara (pictured in a heap) has spoken for the first time since being on the receiving end of a high challenge from Wigan’s Callum McManaman that saw the Frenchman stretchered off.
The 20-year-old is lucky to only be out of action for three weeks after scans revealed just serious bruising to his left leg.
It was feared at first that the left-back had suffered serious ligament injuries.
McManaman will not face a ban for the challenge, after the FA concluded no action was taken on the day, as an assistant saw the incident.
This is despite having previously handed Ben Thatcher an eight-match ban for smashing into Pedro Mendes with an elbow in 2006, after he had been booked on the evening.
In a story reported by the Daily Mail, Haidara spoke to French newspaper Le Parisien and admitted: “I don’t understand (the decision not to ban McManaman.)
"His tackle could have ended my career and ruined my life but in the end he will play football before me.
“We have to protect the players. We can’t tolerate tackles like this in football.”
PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has backed the forming of a review panel to reduce the amount of controversial incidents on the field that go unpunished.
