Giggs can play until he is 50, says Cristiano

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has paid tribute to his former teammate Ryan Giggs, and has joked he could play on for Manchester United until he was 50.

The Daily Mirror reports on Ronaldo’s words, which come after he scored the winner at Old Trafford in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night to put the Red Devils out of the competition.

Giggs (pictured tackling Ronaldo) played the 1,000th game of his career, having worn the colours of United for his entire club career, alongside playing international football for Wales and the Team GB squad at last summer’s Olympics.

He was given the job of limiting Ronaldo’s threat, and this he achieved with consummate ease until the game changed on the controversial dismissal handed out to Nani.

Ronaldo said: “Giggsy is going to finish when he’s 50 years old!  He’s an incredible player.  He’s still fit and still playing in this kind of game.  It’s unbelievable.

"Giggsy is the flag of his club and I’m happy for him.”

The Portuguese star also admitted it was an emotional first return to the Theatre of Dreams since leaving for the Bernabeu in 2009 for a still world record transfer fee of £80m.

Ronaldo decided not to celebrate his winning goal against his old side out of huge respect for his old club.

He continued: “In both games I didn’t feel very good in terms of my head and my body.

"On one hand I feel happy we’re through, but on the other I feel sad because United deserved better.”
